BT intends to achieve the highest standards of health and safety in all Lines of Business. The company aim is to secure a culture where the protection of health and the promotion of safety are integral components of all our commercial activities. BT will strive to ensure that no-one is harmed by its activities, products or services and will seek to secure the commitment of all who are associated with the Company to these aspirations.
BT utilises both Contract Labour and Agency Resource for a wide range of tasks and as such has a responsibility to ensure that Suppliers are effectively selected and managed from the invitation to tender stage right through to successful completion of the contract.
The health and safety performance of contractors will represent a key criterion used in the selection process. Wherever contractors seek to work for BT, their health and safety policy and performance must equal or better the standards achieved within BT.
Internationally accepted best practice will be adopted as a Group Wide minimum level of performance. Assessments of risk will form an integral part of the operational management process. Risks will be reduced to a level which is as low as is reasonably achievable.
Although responsibility for an undertaking of work can be transferred to the Contractor, responsibility for Health and Safety cannot.
As a result the following documents apply to, and form part of, the Suppliers obligations under any contract with BT.
GS11 Health and Safety Management Standard provides suppliers a template against which the safety management section of their tender submission will be judged. This standard applies worldwide although some minor amendment, to take account of local legislation in addition to the requirements of UK law, may be required to be made by the Buyer where the BT Buyer or Contractor are working outside the UK.
BT Contractor Safety Information and Guidelines which gives advice and guidance to contractors when working for BT, on BT premises or at third party premises.
